‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director

Writing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, explained he only now felt prepared to post publicly about his profound loss.

"Sufficient time has elapsed that I can finally put my grief into words," wrote Elwes, adding that his introductory moment with Reiner left him smitten. "Once we started spending more time together I realized this was someone I wanted in my life."

The actor posted behind-the-scenes footage from the production, adding that he doesn't recollect "one day without joy".

"The film is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Things that Rob held dear. That is part of the many reasons he was the best person to direct it," Elwes wrote.

He went on to praise Michele Reiner, stating: "Asserting that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still pangs every time I remember you." He finished with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."

Martin Scorsese Recalls a Friend and Collaborator

In a separate tribute, legendary director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.

"Immediately, I loved being with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was very funny and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese shared.

Scorsese pointed out Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the protagonist.

"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked beautifully with the cast, and he understood the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese added.
